Physics Honors 9
This course presents an opportunity for ninth graders to take an advanced physics course. This class is intended for those who rank at the very top of their honors science and math classes, and who are committed to making science their major academic area of pursuit. This course covers the topics of mechanics, electromagnetic energy, sound, heat, and light.
Regents Physics
Regents Physics is the standard high school physics course designed for those students who are following a college preparatory science sequence. Consider enrolling if you are interested in studying science or medicine in college and have successfully passed biology, earth science, and chemistry. Regents Physics is a survey of motion and forces, energy, electricity and magnetism, light, sound, as well as basic quantum concepts.
Advanced Placement Physics B
This is an introductory, college-level physics course. Students that are recommended to take this course should be willing and able to engage in a demanding mathematical treatment of the basic principles of physics. The topics covered include fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and optics. Emphasis will also be placed upon qualitative reasoning and the ability to apply principles of physics to verbal explanations of everyday phenomena. Consider enrolling if you earned a grade of "A" in both Regents Chemistry and Geometry. Those students who do not fit these requirements may meet with their guidance counselor, their parents and the Department Chair in order to understand the level of academic commitment required to succeed in AP Physics B.
Advanced Placement Physics C
The Advanced Placement course in Physics C is a college-level physics course utilizing calculus, which will be extremely helpful for students planning to major in the physical sciences or engineering. A corequisite course is Advanced Placement Calculus. Calculus is used freely in formulating principles and in solving problems. Consider enrolling following Physics Honors 9 or AP Physics B.
